  • Best Balms

No matter the season, I make sure to have nourishing lip balms on hand to ensure my lips stay smooth and moisturized throughout the year. Here are the three heroes that keep my lips from getting chapped in the dry winters and hot summers. First, the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask ($30 CAD). I use this every night before I go to bed as part of my evening skincare routine. This mask is thick and really stays put; I can still feel it on my lips after a full night of sleep. The major downside of this product is the packaging. Its tube does not include an applicator, so I squeeze some product onto my finger…

  • H&M Pure Radiance Powder Blushers – Worth the Hype?

When it comes to trying new brands, I’m pretty much guaranteed to reach for blushes, bronzers, or brow products. Maybe BB creams as well. BBBBbbb. These are products that I use on the regular, so I know that if the formula and colour are right, I’ll get use out of them. They could still be duds, but I’ll know that there was, at some point, a hope. Before I jump in, let me say: H&M does not currently offer online shopping for Canada-based customers. I found these blushes at the newly renovated H&M at the Eaton Centre, which has a full beauty display on the lower level. Do you know…

  • Good News Week for Canadian Beauty!

Two exciting news items this week! MAC Cosmetics has joined Ebates.ca, offering 3% cash back. This news was actually more exciting yesterday, when it appeared that MAC was actually offering 6% cash back. Cash back can’t be earned on Pro purchases or combined with discount codes not offered through Ebates. Still, this is better than a kick in the butt. I am definitely more inclined to purchase from MAC now that they’re in the Ebates circle. • Boxycharm Now Available in Canada

Boxycharm is a highly coveted beauty subscription box that was, until today, only available in the US. Now, Canadians can subscribe to receive a monthly box of makeup and skincare items whose retail value usually far surpasses the monthly cost of the box.

  • May Favourites

How can it be that a month has already passed since my first post on Plateau Beauty? May zipped by, that’s for sure, but it’s been an exciting mix of warm weather, long weekends, and new ventures. I can’t complain. This month’s favourites features a mix of new, new-to-me, and rediscovered products. Let’s jump in!

  • Mini Review – The Artist’s Studio Hydrating Lip Tint

Summer, to me, is exponentially more enjoyable with a fuss-free beauty routine. That means sunscreen, tube mascara, waterproof brows, and a sheer balm on the lips that can be reapplied without a mirror. Enter The Artist’s Studio Hydrating Lip Tint, which I found at Anthropologie for $14 CAD. (Do not buy from the website, since prices are listed in USD and it’s still $14.) These balms come in bullet form, in the most wonderfully designed cardboard tubes. Each colour in the collection features a different summery design, with mid-century-inspired bathers and graphic motifs illustrated by Lou Taylor. The packaging is so striking and adorable, I found myself trying to decide on a design rather than a…

  • My Minimalist Face Routine

For every day, I prefer a skin-focused makeup look that enhances my natural features. Here are the products I use to get a fresh, minimalist face every day. Biore AQUA RICH Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++ Sunscreen, $14 CAD First thing’s first. I never go without applying sunscreen to my face, and this is my go-to. This sunscreen has a strong alcohol smell when you first apply it, but it dissipates quickly and somehow isn’t drying at all. I have zero tolerance for the powdery or gritty finishes that some sunscreens leave; this one absorbs fully into your skin the way a moisturizer would and doesn’t interfere with makeup.

  • Happy Spritz Aromatherapy Mist

One of my favourite places to browse for beauty and wellness is Urban Outfitters. They always stock unique brands that I’ve either never heard of or seen in person, and the displays always convey such a serene, relaxed mood. Bath teas and salts, masks, aromatherapy—perusing the displays is a lovely reminder to take time for yourself; to settle down and unwind.

  • Deal Alert – Bite Beauty Spring Fling Set

HOW is this still in stock?! A full size lip primer, three mini Amuse Bouche lipsticks (Gazpacho, Verbena, Beetroot), a mirror, and a makeup case? Bite Beauty always has the best value sets, and this Spring Fling set is no exception. Even better, it’s on sale at Sephora right now.

  • Bronzer Roundup for Light to Medium Complexions

I have a bit of a bronzer problem. Bronzer is my go-to category, so I’ve acquired a bit of a collection. Here’s my roundup of tips and favourites. Bronzer is one of those products that needs the right tools. Most other products can withstand a bit of improvisation, like using those horrendous sponge-tip applicators that come with drug store eyeshadow (they work in a pinch!). Bronzer is not one of those products. Do not use the silly brushes that come with some bronzers, they are completely useless. If you have the right brush, your bronzer will look great even if you don’t have quite the right shade. Before I jump into sharing my product recommendations, let…
